2.1. Listen to Heart – Value the Value of Small….
We all make resolutions on some day or the other. The resolutions are generally made by us on some important day of the year or important day of our lives. Sometimes it is also made on normal days. The resolutions made on the important day are generally a reminder to us. How many of us after making the resolution are able to keep it and stick to it and for how many times? If you are able to keep to your words, I would personally like to congratulate you. If you are not then I would like to inform you that you are from 90%, who are not able to stick and fails in keeping up the resolution. This is small but a pivotal behavior in any human being. It happens generally because we make resolutions with enthusiasm and not determination. So the will power fails to achieve the target. We avoid listening to our heart. There is no co-ordination in this case between the mind-heart-soul. So we lose the self-control. By rethinking your resolutions and refocusing your willpower, you can learn how to nail your resolutions on the very first try. These compact and powerful commitments focus self-control on a precise and achievable behavioral target until it becomes as automatic as tying your shoes or locking the front door when you leave the house. A minor resolution or a small resolution would have turned our lives in big positive way but we could not keep the minor also for big result. This small resolution controlled our big lives rather big life controlling the small resolution. Now we need to decide which is smaller and observe the power of small. Now if we have understood the power of small then we should always value the value of small.
I would like to share a story ‘Lunch with God’. All of us must have heard or read. Still I take this opportunity to put down. The reason is that it teaches us that a small incidence gives love and satisfaction. After reading it once again I would like you all to value the value of small.
There once was a little boy who wanted to meet God. He knew it was a long trip to where God lived, so he packed his suitcase with Twinkies and a six-pack of root beer and started his journey. When he had gone about three blocks, he met an old woman. She was sitting in the park just staring at some pigeons. The boy sat down next to her and opened his suitcase. He was about to take a drink from his root beer when he noticed that the old lady looked hungry, so he offered her a Twinkie. She gratefully accepted it and smiled at him. Her smile was so pretty that the boy wanted to see it again, so he offered her a root beer. Once again she smiled at him. The boy was delighted! They sat there all afternoon eating and smiling, but they never said a word. As it grew dark, the boy realized how tired he was, and he got up to leave; but before he had gone more than a few steps, he turned around, ran back to the old woman and gave her a hug. She gave him her biggest smile ever. When the boy opened the door to his own house a short time later, his mother was surprised by the look of joy on his face. She asked him, "What did you do today that made you so happy?" He replied, "I had lunch with God." But, before his mother could respond, he added, "You know what? She's got the most beautiful smile I've ever seen!"
Meanwhile, the old woman radiant with joy, returned to her home. Her son was stunned by the look of peace on her face; and he asked, "Mother, what did you do today that made you so happy?" She replied, "I ate Twinkies in the park with God." But, before her son responded, she added, "You know, he's much younger than I expected."
Krishna said, “That which pervades the entire body you should know to be indestructible. No one is able to destroy that imperishable soul.”
Krishna tells about the real nature of soul. We all understand that consciousness is spread all over the body. We have discussed earlier that we all experience pain and pleasure through our consciousness. This consciousness is within one’s own body. Everybody is embodied with a soul and this soul is perceived as consciousness. The soul in size is considered as one tenth-thousand part of upper portion of the hair point. It is confirmed in Upanishad (5.9). When the upper point of a hair is divided into one hundred parts and again each of such parts is further divided into one hundred parts, each such part is the measurement of the dimension of the spirit soul.
“The soul is atomic in size and can be perceived by perfect intelligence. This atomic soul is floating in the five kinds of air (Prana, Apana, Vyana, Samana and Udana), is situated within the heart, and spreads its influence all over the body of the embodied living entities. When the soul is purified from the contamination of the five kinds of material air, its spiritual influence is exhibited.” The hatha-yoga system is meant for controlling the five kinds of air encircling the pure soul by different kinds of sitting postures—not for any material profit, but for liberation of the minute soul from the entanglement of the material atmosphere. The power of soul teaches us the power of small. So value the value of small.
So the constitution of the atomic soul is admitted in all Vedic literatures, and it is also actually felt in the practical experience of any sane man. Only the insane man can think of this atomic soul as all-pervading Vishnu-tattva. The influence of the atomic soul can be spread all over a particular body. According to the Mundaka Upanishad, this atomic soul is situated in the heart of every living entity, and because the measurement of the atomic soul is beyond the power of appreciation of the material scientists, some of them assert foolishly that there is no soul. The individual atomic soul is definitely there in the heart along with the Super-soul, and thus all the energies of bodily movement are emanating from this part of the body. The corpuscles which carry the oxygen from the lungs gather energy from the soul. When the soul passes away from this position, the activity of the blood, generating fusion, ceases. Medical science accepts the importance of the red corpuscles, but it cannot ascertain that the source of the energy is the soul. Medical science, however, does admit that the heart is the seat of all energies of the body.
Such atomic particles of the spirit whole are compared to the sunshine molecules. In the sunshine there are innumerable radiant molecules. Similarly, the fragmental parts of the Supreme Lord are atomic sparks of the rays of the Supreme Lord, called by the name Prabha, or superior energy. So whether one follows Vedic knowledge or modern science, one cannot deny the existence of the spirit soul in the body, and the science of the soul is explicitly described in the Bhagavad-gita.
